Description:

This morning I had the opportunity to try the Canon 500 MM F4.0 lense, and mated to Canon 1Dx fullframe camera, this was the result. I also took shots with a 1.4 extender, but the sky was not clear enough to get better results than this. Finally I took a 300 mm shot with the 28-300 I normally use on my 1D.MkIV but the 500 mm quality was by far the best.

The ship did not carry any passengers but came into Rotterdam for a crew change.

It's even more frustrating when you can see the ships, but not get to photograph them!!!!! We may get a bit more freedom in the coming weeks, and be able to get out occasionally.

I could have photographed the funnels of the Cobelfret ferries from my loft, but now the trees have grown leaves again...

I am lucky in that I can photograph ships from my house. Unfortunately they would not meet the standards of this site (partly obstructed by the riverbank and sme bushes).

Bob, since our lockdown measures, including "stay at home as much as possible" I had not visited the Maasvlakte at all until last Tuesday. The "stay at home" was not mandatory, but we have an "intelligent" lockdown, whereby you own intelligence could decide what was best regarding suggestions that were open for interpretation. Roads to the Maasvlakte have been closed during some weekends when the nice weather made people forget all about this and the went in massive numbers to the beach.

Likewise. We could be stopped by the police and fined for making an unnecessary journey.

Different social distancing rules in the Netherlands, a bit more relaxed than the UK. A bit frustrating when you see others can get out and photograph and we can't. I could drive about 7 miles to a very isolated spot on the Humber bank which I usually go to for stuff coming up the river, but I haven't, not because I think there's any risk, but because I don't think I should at the moment.

Bob, I was the only one standing on the top of the dam, all the others were on the road below...so, yes, that was more 1.5 metre.

No doubt the Maasvlakte Mafia found it quite easy to maintain social distancing when they flocked out to the back-of-beyond to catch this one (LOL)

Sorry don't know Pieter.

Ship crew or hotel service people or both? Some might not be home before the weekend with current airline traffic schedules.

She is bringing back around 1,000 Dutch/European crew members from Princess (and other Carnival Corp. lines I think).
