New Matson ConRo under construction at General Dynamics NASSCO Shipyard, San Diego, CA. Matson’s second “Kanaloa Class” is the 5th vessel to be named Matsonia. Matsonia is designed to carry up to 3500 TEU and has an enclosed garage space for up to 500 vehicles or breakbulk cargo. She has state-of-the-art green technology features, including a fuel efficient hull design, environmentally safe double hull fuel tanks, fresh water ballast systems and dual-fuel engines, able to operate at speeds up to 23 knots on either conventional fuel oils or liquefied natural gas. NASSCO is scheduled to deliver the new vessel to Matson by the end of 2020.
