Although spiral is the commonly-used term for a staircase such as these, the correct term is helical. A spiral would be wider at the base, narrowing to a point as it ascended, forming a conical shape rather than a cylindrical one.

Note the twin spiral staircases leading to all levels of the superstructure block, one on either side of the twin funnel stack, that are peculiar to this class of ship. I'm not sure how safe they'd be in a seaway.
