Our Mission As part of the Navy's strategic sealift capability, Maritime Prepositioning Ship Squadron One, or MPS Squadron One, is responsible for tactical control of ships of the Military Sealift Command Prepositioning Program in the Mediterranean Sea and eastern Atlantic Ocean. These ships carry afloat prepositioned cargo for various U.S. military services. The squadron's mission is to provide command and control to facilitate sea transportation of vital equipment and supplies to a designated area of operations.
