Description:
The 1931 Copenhagen built LYDIA seen at Port Barcarès, near Port la Nouvelle, on 7th December 2002.
Ex- MOONTA - 55 (Adelaide S.S. Co. Ltd.)
In 1967 the company SEMETA bought LYDIA from Hellenic Mediterranean Lines Co Ltd to be the maritime symbol of a new innovative hotel opening that year. Her propellers and engines were removed at Marseille and ship then landlocked onto the beach in Le Barcarès.
In 1974 a Japanese company bought "Casino Le Lydia" and added several new features to her but in 1997, notwithstanding that "Casino Le Lydia" was effectively a building, the Government closed her down due to new Safety of Life at Sea regulations.
After lying derelict until 2000 the Partouche Group, the leading French casino operator, bought the ship and restored her as shown.
By 2005 the leisure complex included an exhibition center, restaurant, bar, discotheque, pool with a waterslide and spa. In 2010 it was taken over by the Municipality of Barcarès.
