Thanks, Ian! I too was thinking it could be some smoke deflectors, except they are of odd deign as some /I-like poles with what looks like fabric in between.

Used to expel smoke and fumes from below deck, these whale tails are directed slightly skywards to keep the outflow from interfering with crew or passengers.
