Description:

The 2001 Galati, Romania, built tanker CHINOOK is seen arriving at Lavera on 24th August 2002.

Launched as the Romanian CALINESTI, she was delivered in 2001 to Prosperous Century, Hong Kong, and as GLASGOW managed by Anglo-Eastern UK Ltd of Glasgow. She was renamed CHINOOK in May 2002 and from July 2003 was managed by Ernst Jacob GMBH of Flensburg.

Flying the Hong Kong flag on delivery, she subsequently transferred to Cayman Islands in 2003 and to Marshall Islands in 2005.

One of those Romanian ships that was "victim" of the revolution. She was already launched in March 1991, and was left to rot, a fate of several Romanian vessels. That she finally found a "buyer" must have been a case of a very low price, in combination with a revival of the tanker market. I am actually surprised that she is still trading.
