Description:
The A.Halcoussis owned TZELEPI is seen entering Langton lock, Liverpool, on the afternoon tide of 2nd July 1983 to load cargo for Iran.
Built in 1967 at Tamano in Japan as STRATHCONON for P&O, she had been sold in 1979 to United Thai Shipping Corporation, taking the name CHUANCHOM.
CHUANCHOM ran aground in April 1980 during a voyage from Hamburg to Bangkok and was reported sold to breakers. However in November 1980 Halcoussis bought the ship and took her to Syros and then to Piraeus for permanent repairs.
TZELEPI had sailed from Hamburg on 22nd June 1983 and anchored off Bandar Abbas on 6th August but did not berth for several months and, after completion of discharge, anchored off Oman from 19th January 1984 awaiting sale to breakers, initially arranged in Taiwan. However she arrived at Shanghai on 25th May 1984, reportedly for breaking.
