Description:

Launched as *Nordic* 11 April 1961 at Gothenburg by Linholmens Varv, hull no. 1071, for Rederi A/B Nordic, Stockholm, but entered service September 1961 as *Nordia.* 377'9" x 50'2" x 24'6.75;" 4560 gt, 2432 nt; 6-cylinder Lindholmens Diesel, 630mm x 1300mm, 3750-bhp.

Later *Tevega* (1974) and *Dimmer* (1981). Broken up at Gadani Beach, 1987.

Shown at Navy Pier, Chicago, Illinois, USA, June 1964. Cunard, for some obscure reason, saw fit to operate a Great Lakes service during the mid-60s, using chartered German and Scandinavian tonnage, of which the *Nordia* is a comely example.

There was another chartered Norwegian vessel on the Greta Lakes service. the MV Tautra. She was a stern housing vessel with five sets of conventional gear. I sailed on her in 1964 and remember tying up at Navy Pier because the University of Illinois had some kind of department on the upper level of the pier and the sight of young co-eds was much appreciated.
She had a mixed UK Norwegian crew out of the Norwegian Shipping office at Lancaster Gate in London
