http://vloot.web-log.nl/vloot/2005/04/geertje_buisman.html
she was in "December 2003 verkocht voor de sloop te Varna, Bulgarije." Babbelfish tells me she was turned into a pillow case at Varna, Bulgaria, but I doubt that actually occurred. An appropriate Dutch translation, please!
Shown June 1960 at International Steamship Terminals, Inc., 95th Street and the Calumet River, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Beyond the shed one can see the small Fabre freighter *Marquette.* Hycar Line chartered small Scandinavian and German coasters for its Great Lakes-Northern Europe service, even after the St. Lawrence Seaway opened to much larger vessels in 1959. Shortly after this photo was taken, the *Geertje Buisman* grounded on Vienne Shoal (45.78111/85.10139), northern Lake Michigan, 18 June 1960, where she remained for four days until the Roen Steanship Co. could lighter enough of her cargo to free her. That cargo included Nash Rambler autos being imported to Europe. How times have changed.
