Gentlemen, many thanks for your helpful information.

I get onto the Immingham Dock estate occasionally, as an ad-hoc volunteer at the seaman's mission. However even if access in general was possible, it would hardly be worth it. A Port Control tower has been built on the lock head where you too this photograph from, so no access there. Many of the berths are now fenced off, and in places new buildings erected, so that photographable views of ships within the dock itself are difficult to get. I've managed the odd one, but mainly I use the riverbank just downriver from Immingham. As Patrick says you need a 50mm to 200mm zoom to get most Immingham arrivals and sailings. Anything going up river further than Killingholme is likely to be further out in the river, depending on state of the tide, and Immingham movements, so 200mm wouldn't be enough for the smaller stuff.

Sadly, no Malcolm. Since 2004 ABP withdrew photos permits on the Humber due to ISPS so there is no access to the dock estates now. There are spots along the riverfront accessible but big lenses are needed.

Yes indeed Patrick, I well remember the pleasure of meeting you there. That was my last visit to Immingham. Is access to the lock still possible?

I remember that day, ideal lighting for her arrival.
