Description:

Nigerian National Shipping Line's 1979 Ulsan built RIVER ANDONI is seen laid up at Birkenhead on 6th September 1996.

RIVER ANDONI had arrived at Ellesmere Port on 16th February 1994 from Immingham and was subsequently placed under arrest due to unpaid crew wages and bunkers. She was moved to Birkenhead on 8th August 1996.

Badly fire-damaged in her engine room on 18th August, she was subsequently towed to Aliaga and beached on 7th January 1997 for breaking.

Great shot Malcolm. Personal preference I guess, but I always found these vessels majestic in their own way with plenty of "presence" as a young lad I used to go with my father to his work on occasion for a trip on the ship canal and mersey. That was on the "Ordale H". I remember passing the River Andoni on many occasions and can remember the crew waving to me as we passed. Lovely memories, eventually led to going to sea myself.
