Thankyou Gentlemen for your interest in the "50 years ago" series. SIDERIS was unusually photographed on a week day morning before work. My starting work in September 1970 naturally reduced the frequency of ship photography, especially from January 1972 on moving to London. Fortunately the years 1974-76 were busier but mainly at Liverpool in 1974 and at the Kiel Canal in 1975/6, sadly rarely at Portishead or Avonmouth. However I shall continue scanning and posting the "50 years" photographs on this website as long as I am able. Best regards. Malcolm

Thanks Malcolm for these regular 'trips to the past'. I particularly like your Bristol Channel memories as at that time I used to visit Avonmouth from Devon regularly and your background information supplements my notes of those trips. I saw the SIDERIS alongside a few days later, and on that occasion we stopped off at Portishead where we were rewarded with three vessels alongside, the ALBRIGHT PIONEER, CORBRAE, and ETHEL EVERARD making 26 sightings for the day and giving much exercise to my biro in my tattered copies of Ocean Ships and Coastal Ships books. Thanks Malcolm. in this photo an interesting feature is the crack arrester plate riveted to the hull'outboard at main deck level'it extends from no 3 hold through to the aft end of no 4 these plates were also fitted on the main deck
