Nigerian National Shipping Line's 1968 Emden built RIVER NIGER was photographed passing Portishead, outbound from Avonmouth, on 21 November 1970, exactly fifty years ago today.
Laid up at London from 3rd December 1982, she was sold in October 1983 to Cyprus flag operators and her name shortened to RIVER. She arrived at Piraeus on 21st January 1984 for repairs and sailed on 15th October 1984 as TIGER bound for Japan.
As TIGER she subsequently sailed from La Spezia on 5th April 1985 bound for Kuwait and Bombay before being broken up nearby.
