Description:

The 1977 A&P Sunderland built SD14 type CHIAN STAR, operated by Moss Marine Management of Piraeus, is seen passing Purfleet in the early morning of 2nd May 1997 outbound from Thames Refinery Jetty following discharge of a cargo of sugar.

Delivered to Empros Lines in 1977 as KATERINA DRACOPOULOS, following her sale in 1993 she had several changes of name as follows:

1993: DANGOTE STAR
1994: PETRA STAR
1996: CHIAN STAR
1999: SKUA

She finally arrived off Alang on 24th May 2002 for beaching and breaking

Bob, the location was Purfleet in the early morning. It was the only occasion when I have photographed from there. I set off from Wirral at about 3am, listening on the radio to the election results when Tony Blair became PM, arriving at Purfleet at about 7am.

Maybe I'm mistaken but this looks more like lower Gravesend Reach, rather than Purfleet (Long Reach), where the sun is always on the wrong side
