Hi Pieter,
ALVA as being a Type 33e is based on Type 33c and 33d like these ones where the king posts are needed:

As being standard ships from an assembly line they did not bother to change the basic rig it seems as it might be easily changed later as an option.

You can see this fine ship, and over 100 classics, in the wonderful new book about ships built at the Sietas yard between the mid-1950s and the mid-1970s.
