Description:

The 1976 Wivenhoe built coaster ANNA D, which had the letters KDM painted on her funnel and was registered at Runcorn, is seen departing from Liverpool for the Manchester Ship Canal on 20th May 2007.

Equasis indicates that she was managed by River Sea Trading of Oban while Miramar states that she was owned by Big Ditch Shipping Co. Ltd. of London. Can anyone clarify please?

Many thanks David. I am now advised that ANNA D. was operated by KD Marine Ltd. of Runcorn and Liversedge (West Yorkshire), KD standing for Keith Dawson and ANNA D. probably named after Anna Dawson. Another partner in this business was Phil Dunham, who is believed to be one of the masters of the bunker barge MERSEY ENDURANCE, with finance possibly provided by Ashmeads of Bristol.

ANNA D. was probably moving grain from Liverpool to Manchester Dry Docks for Ranks.

It is understood that, as CELEBRITY, she had grounded off Stornoway shortly after purchase in late 2003 by River Sea Trading (Ms. Heather Chaplin) and was sent to Liverpool for repairs, following which she was sold to become ANNA D.

It is further understood that the KD Marine was later sold to the Manchester based Big Ditch Shipping Co. Ltd. which was subsequently sold to Mainmast Ltd - who withdrew from the business in 2011/12 when the Manchester Dry Docks discharge berth closed, consequently laying up the vessels TRAFFORD ENTERPRISE and OCEAN PRAISE (ex GINA D.) at Liverpool, see: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2900494

Neither of those sources are really complete - although Equasis data comes from IHS (=SeaWeb), they have never taken in all the back data (note that even the former name CELEBRITY is missing); conversely it is the more recent ownership changes that are often missing from Miramar (not sure what sources they used apart from the William Schell/WSS data for updates).
