The ship on voyage from Tuticorin to Kakinada (IND), carrying a cargo of sulphuric acid, suffered leakage of acid from cargo to ballast tanks and required assistance approaching the Sri Lanka coast off Trincomalee on 06/04/2009.
The crew abandoned ship. In recognition of environmental risks to the Sri Lankan waters and coastline, the Sri Lanka Navy towed the listing tanker to deep sea pending salvage investigation.
