Description:
At this time on 4th January 1976, 45 years ago, I was setting out from Lagos port for an eight hour trip around the anchorage where there were around 300 ships, mainly loaded with cement, waiting to enter port to discharge.
One of the cement ships was C.D. & G. Prokopiou's 1956 J.L.Thompson, Sunderland, built POLA which had arrived on 15th September 1975 from Szczecin. She eventually berthed in July 1976, departing for Takoradi on 26th August.
