Description:

The 1952 Belfast built AMVOURGON, formerly Elder Dempster Lines' ONITSHA, is seen passing Walsoorden outbound from Antwerp on 3rd June 1972 on her first voyage for Empros Lines.

On 8th January 1975, while on a ballast voyage from Quebec to Baltimore, AMVOURGON suffered a fire near the Gaspé Peninsula along the south shore of the St.Lawrence River to the east of the Matapedia Valley in Quebec, Canada.

AMVOURGON was eventually towed to Santander for breaking, arriving there on 29th May 1975.

This was the last, and arguably the most important, ship seen during a two week visit to Holland in May/June 1972, being photographed during the return drive to Dover.

ONITSHA had been handed over to her new owners at Amsterdam where she had arrived from Warri on 26th April.
