Launched 17 September 1955 at Port Weller, Ontario, by Port Weller DDsLtd. as hull no. 18 for Beaconsfield SSsLtd., Montreal. 259’ x 43’10” x 16’6.5;” 2292 gt, 1605 nt; twin 10-cylinder Fairbanks, Morse Diesels, 206mm x 508, built 1944, to a single screw, 1880-bhp.

Lengthened 1960: 331’2” x 43’10” x 16.6.5;” 2914 gt, 2035 nt. Later **Franquelin* (1967), *Eva Desgagnes* (1987), and *Telchac* (1989). Broken up at Tuxpan, Mexico, 1992.

Shown May 1966 on the Welland Canal, owned by Mohawk NavCoLtd., Montreal.

Just to clarify the propulsion description . The Griffon only had a single screw set up with one 10 cylinder Fairbanks Morse Main Engine through a gearbox .

I remember seeing this vessel for the first time, i was on CSL package freighter Kenora in Oct. 1955, the ship I was on was built in 1907, and the Griffon brand new in 1955, it made an odd looking pair, with emphases on the Griffon being a modern looking vessel and our old clunker that I was sailing on, 51 years ago. I saw her for the last time in lock 4 Beauharnouis as I was waiting for the Ralph Misener, Griffon, by this time Telchac, was leaving the lakes for the last time in 1989.still a good looking boat, only longer.
