Description:

Even the dullest of days can produce some interesting shots, with surprising colours. Here are the MR2 tanker TORM LENE and the MR1 TORM TEVERE involved in an STS in the Caland Canal. I don't know the direction of the flow, but I assume TEVERE is on the receiving end.

F7.1 or F8, around the sweet spot of the lens I am using.I am not a fan of higher values, the background does not need to be in full focus when the object is not too far away. Shutter times are mostly around 1/200 to 1/250. When there is a lot of light you have to be careful not to overexpose when using the automatic ISO which does not go lower than 100. In that case I increase the shutter speed.

Pieter, is F/7.1 the one you generally use for all photos regardless of light conditions?

Thanks, guys. Brian, the flexibility of the 1DX is such that I use the automatic ISO setting, which, with the camera on manual gives me the option to set the shutterspeed and aperture at my preference, and that will result in sometimes high ISO values, but very little noise.

A very good photo, very atmospheric. I recommend viewing in full screen.
At ISO 1,250 the Canon EOS-1D X was just the camera for this job.
