Description:
The Swedish ULCC NANNY is here seen during last stages of outfitting at builders yard at Uddevalla in september 1978. She was built for a Swedish affiliate of the Norwegian owner Niels Onstad. Another Norwegian company, Tschudi & Eitzen, had ordered a sistership. Due to oil-crisis, this contract in 1976 was converted to two 55000 t.dw OBO-carriers.
Of 491 100 t.dw, NANNY is still one of the largest vessels built in Europe. As far as I found out, she is the widest vessel ever built, with a beam of 79,1 meters.
In 1981 the vessel was taken over by the Swedish Government, and in 1984 sold to Greek owner Latsis and renamed KING ALEXANDER.
In 1997 she was renamed SEA WORLD, and in june 2003 she arrived at Jiangyin, China for B/U.
Former name(s):
- King Alexander (Until 1997 Nov)
- Nanny (Until 1984)
