Wow, that is very serious matter Frank. I can pass by the vessel looks but safety is a very serious matter especially at sea, Have there not been very disasters at sea these last decades? I thought that such malpractises at sea are usually occurring in some far eastern waters involving less reputable companies and not in Europe.

DFDS, Brttany Ferries and Stena Line are not interested in quality!!!. Thet only want it cheap. I was on a Vessel from one of the fore-mentioned when certain safety issues were brought to the attention of Bord of Trade Surveyor and his answer was that they pay high insurance preminums.

This not just a question of being made in China, it was passed and approved by DFDS ,so the onus is on them.
If you buy something new , be it a car a, a fridge or anything else you inspect it before taking possession.

From a professinal view Vlad is absolutely correct but even if a pretty finish on the Funnel doesn't make money or play a role in strength, something like this on a brand new ship leaves me speechless. And from another point of view i agree with Emmanuel: as a passenger, this sight could make me doubt about the quality of workmanship of the entire ship.
All the best to you,
Stefan

There are enough other areas like this, under lifeboat, and sure somewhere else. This is class approved of cause, somehow in China it goes well, but when you got indented shell plating on older running vessels - sorry, renew

You are right lappino, but it doesn't look right in a new ship especially to other lesser knowledgeable passengers. Plate thickness is crucial to weight especially so high up, but it still looks ugly. Mosaic indeed......
regards and stay healthy my friend.

Nothing HAS to be done here.

This is funnel. Superstructure. If the owner wants it, it can be faired up (or indeed outright renewed) - but renewal is related to the loss of nominal thickness, and a hole here or there in the funnel will not compromise the strength of the vessel's hull. :)

Cheers

Vlad

Mosaic quality. Depth of indents must be measured, once rules exceeded steel of suspected area to be renewed.
