Description:

Unfortunately the only shot I have of her, having just been renamed from JUPITER No.2. She was originally a Panamax size car/bulk carrier, and over the years both the car lifts/car decks and the cranes disappeared from her deck.

Shw as built by Imabari, Marugame (#1056) and sold in 1985 to Spyros Karnessis and renamed Eleftheria Karnessis, already in 1987 she was renamed ATLANTIC PRIDE, which ended as a gearless bulkcarrier at a Nantong shipyard during November 2008

Shown here on a hazy day arriving Rotterdam, ca 1986.

Thanks Acrop, I amended my little story about her. Do you have more info about the nature of the constructions on the deck? Are these elevators?

Great shot.
The vessel was owned by Capt Spyros Karnessis (Elka Shipping (London) Ltd, London) and was named after his mother. Actually the name of the company was standing for his mother ELeftheria KArnessis. Capt Karnessis was Thenamaris' executive at the London office, named Eastern Mediterranean Maritime (London) Ltd, caring for chartering and insurance of Thenamaris' fleet. In 1980, Capt Carnessis set up Elka Shipping and his first ship was named EUROPA, an old freighter. Today Elka Shipping going very strong with a large modern fleet of product tankers.
I recall this ship was the first ship i fixed back in 2006, when i was a young broker at Elka Shipping, in a very strong freight market. The ship was 28 year old and still managed to get 1 year period charter at about $20,000 per day!
