Tug PEGASUS standing-by while Minoan Lines' IKARUS or PASIPHAE leaves port [not ARETOUSA, correction 15 December 2014].

Built 1958 at A. van Bennekum, Sliedrecht, Netherlands (21). Coastal and harbour tug. 16 t bollard pull. 1200 ihp (1800 ihp as of 1969). 13,19 x 7,82 x 3,08 m. 1958 SIMSON (N.V. Bureau Wijsmuller, IJmuiden, Netherlands). Harbour towage at IJmuiden, also in North Sea coastal waters. 1983 PEGASUS (Loucas G. Matsas, Piraeus, Greece). 2006 in service.

Excuse me, but the ferry leavings port is not the Aretousa... but she is one of the two sisters Pasiphae (became Pasiphae Palace and today Jean Nicoli of SNCM) and Ikarus (today Ikarus Palace)

Wijsmuller added three or four coastal/harbour tugs to its fleet in the fifties, with had this very appealing profile. Matsas bought two of them, and they are treated like museum pieces. Matsas and Tsavlaris share (or shared) a contract with the Greek government for stand-by services when the big ferries arrive at Patras. Most of the time the are just looking on, which [i]sometimes[/i] yields a picture like this.
