Description:

Built in 1957 by Harland & Wolff at Belfast for Andrew Weir Shipping's Bank Line, CARRONBANK is seen passing Gravesend outbound from London exactly fifty years ago today, on 15th July 1972, during a voyage from Hamburg to Port Vila via Rotterdam and Madang.

Sold to Greek operators in 1974 she was renamed ARIS CARRIER followed by EURABIA OCEAN in 1976, NEPTUN in 1979 and MAYSTAR in 1980.

As MAYSTAR, owned by Zea Shipping (D.Fosteris & V.Maltezos) she was for a short period rejoined in ownership with NIKITAS.F (ex HOLLYBANK), GEORGIA.F (ex TESTBANK) and MAYFAIR (ex CAPE GRENVILLE)

MAYSTAR was beached at Bombay on 6th September 1982 for breaking

On first posting this photo eight years ago "ussumbarine" commented as follows:

"I joined the M.V. Carronbank on 13th July 1972 as 2nd Electrician. This was my first ship. That was two days before this picture. I was therefore on board at the time of this photograph. Our passage was to Rotterdam for "topping off" before crossing the Atlantic, then transiting the Panama Canal bound for Tahiti."
