WELCOME TO SHIPSPOTTING.COM
Description:
Whalers in Sandefjord, NORWAY. This is a pearl, if you ask me. And this was the situation in the fifties and sixties, ship by ship by ship. As "we" nearly eradicated the whales, the ships went everywhere. To scrapping, to be rebuildt as fishing vessels, and later as standby-vessels in the north sea. The small ferry in the front is called "framnes 1", and used to carry workers at framnes mek to the city. I love this shot. Take a look at the kids fishing in the front. The whalers in the front belonged to the thor dahl- company. Here is a shot from marc piche, the "thorswave", an excelent shot

what great overview of this whalerfleet. I think two of them were rebuilt into coasters some years later. The POL II (became the danish coaster ARTEMIS) and the POL IV (became the danish coaster ALF). I've seen both vessels in Marstal/Aeroe, Danmark, where they were registered that time. ARTEMIS became in the 1990'ies a sailing vessel / dutch flag. Both vessels were built in 1926 by Nylands vaerksted.
Thanx for posting this great pic!
