HIMALAYA near the locks at Ymuiden.
IMO 5150800 She was built for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company at Barrow-in-Furness by Vickers-Armstrongs (# 951) and launched 5 October 1948. he began her service on the Tilbury-Bombay-Australia route in August 1949. In 1958 she pioneered a new South Pacific route for P&O. In the winter of 1959-60 she was given a major refit in the Netherlands. In 1963 she was converted to all tourist class and was often used on assisted immigrant sailings. She arrived at Hong Kong on 31 October 1974 on her final commercial voyage. She was sold to Tong Cheng Steel Manufacturing Co. Ltd, and scrapped in Kaohsiung. As built, 758 1st class, 401 tourist class, since 1963, 1416 tourist class passengers.

Himalaya's final cruise out of Southampton was a 3-night trip to Amsterdam 12th to 15th May 1974. After than she made a line voyage to Sydney from where she undertook a series of cruises before going to the breakers. I was on board for the short trip to Amsterdam.
