Description:

KADMILOS was photographed from Portishead sailing club's rescue boat on 4th November 1972, exactly fifty years ago today, while at anchor in Walton Bay off Clevedon awaiting a berth at Avonmouth on arrival from India with a cargo of animal feeding stuffs.

KADMILOS had a surprisingly long career which lasted from 1948 to 1979. She had been built in 1948 by William Gray at Hartlepool and delivered to Suisse Atlantique of Basel, which named her GENERAL GUISAN.

In 1957, she was sold to Idwal Williams of Cardiff and renamed GRAIGFELEN.

Sold in 1966, and initially becoming IONIC BREEZE, she was renamed KADMILOS in 1967.

In 1973 she was sold at Karachi to Gokal's Gulf Shipping Lines Group and renamed FIVE CRESCENT, and later resold in 1975 to Philippine owners and renamed NATIONAL STEEL THREE for local trading.

She eventually arrived at Kaohsiung on 24.5.79 to be broken up.

Interesting that -as Kadmilos - she had schooner guys rigged between her derricks. No sign of them when she was Graigfelen. I don't recall ever having seen schooner guys on a UK flagged ship.
