Description:

The JEAN-TALON (ex PRINCE UNGAVA, ex FRANQUELIN) was a typical canaler (i.e. small lacker designed for the Canadian Seaway). Built in UK in 1936 by Swam Hunter & Wigham Richardson(Wallsend-on-Tyne) under the name FRANQUELIN (Hull# 1517 launched April 4th and registered initialy in Newcastle). She was replacing the JOSEPH MEDHILL built at the same place in 1935 but lost with all hand on board while crossing the atalntic to Canada on her maiden voyage. She was built for the Québec & Ontario Paper co ltd. My father was also the last canadian owner of this vessel from 1967 until sold to south american owner in 1974. Mainly use for as a pulwood carrier and sometimes used for heavy machinery transportation. Pic taken near Trois Rivières 1968.
