LEDA, built in 1953 by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson, Newcastle, England, yard number 1823. Dim: 133,51 x 17,43 x 6,10 m, 6670 grt, 2000 dwt, two Parsons steam turbines, 9698 kW, 20.5 knots, 584 passengers in cabins (later 484). Delivered 24th March 1953 to Det Bergenske D/S, Bergen, Norway. Sailing Bergen - Newcastle. Laid-up in 1971, in 1976 used at Stavanger as accommodation vessel. In 1979 sold to Kuwait, renamed NAJLA, for conversion into cattle carrier. But at Stornoway used as accommodation vessel. In 1980 towed to Kristiansand, in 1981 to Kuwait, in 1982 sold to Piraeus, renamed ALBATROSS, in 1984 ALEGRO. In 1985 converted at Perama in Greece to cruise ship ALBATROSS. In 1988 renamed BETSY ROSS, in 1989 AMALFI, in 1991 STAR OF VENICE. In use as cruise ship, hotel vessel, floating prison but also laid-up for long periods. On 20th August 2001 arrived at Aliaga for demolition.
