Description:
Skibs A/S Danmotor (V.Burkoff) of Oslo’s 1964 El Ferrol built ALEX, on long term charter to Canadian Pacific, is seen passing Hoek van Holland inbound for Rotterdam on 12th July 1968 during a voyage from London to Montreal. In mid 1972, she was sold to Alpha Marine Enterprises (A.Efstathiou & G.Kontaras) of Piraeus and renamed North Star. In 1973, G. Kontaras, trading as Condaras (Hellas Ltd.), took sole ownership of the vessel, renamed Lord Byron (later joined by Lord Hastings, the former Hopecrag). However, Lord Byron was detained at Berbera in Somalia from October 1974 until March 1980, departing for Piraeus under tow of the tug Irishman. Following repairs, Lord Byron returned to service until laid up at Piraeus on 14 November 1982, only departing on 9 April 1984 as the Kuwait owned Rola M. In October 1984, she was renamed Al Mona and from the end of 1985, until scrapped at Gadani Beach in April 1987, she traded as the Egyptian owned Al Mona D.
