Description:

The 1961 Tamise built bulk carrier ORIENT VENTURE in Singapore Roads in March 1983. She was owned by Inter Maritime Management S.A. (B.Rappaport) of Geneva but managed from, and flagged at, Singapore.

ORIENT VENTURE had arrived at Singapore on 9 March 1983 from Madras, reportedly sold to Taiwan breakers. However, she instead continued trading and, after sailing from Ulsan on 7 July 1983 for Bandar Khomeini, ran aground, not arriving there until 20 September. She was subsequently laid up at Jebel Ali from 10 February 1984 to 20 June 1984, then proceeded to Alang for scrapping.

On 6th July 1963, under her original name of THALASSOPOROS, she had arrived at Avonmouth where I visited the new and impressive ship, then owned by N.J. Pateras.
