Description:
The Commandant Fourcault was built in 1968 on the Chantier Naval de Rupelmonde. The ship was named Loodsboot 1 and was used as a pilot tender until 1985. From that year until 1991, the Loodsboot 1 was used as a training ship for the Maritime Academy. The ship was named Commandant Fourcault, after the captain of the Belgian training ship Comte de Smet de Naeyer, which sank in 1906. Shortly after the merging of the National Maritime School of Ostend and the Higher Maritime School of Antwerp, the ship was taken out of service. The ship was languishing in Ostend from 1992 to 2000. In 2000 the ship was publicly sold to a Dutch private individual who uses the ship for diving expeditions and salvage operations, among other things. The ship was equipped with a helicopter landing pad and a decompression chamber.
