U.S. barge carrier GREEN ISLAND is here seen during a visit at Avondale Shipyard in November 1976.
She was built at this same shipyard in 1974 for New Orleans-based Central Gulf Lines.
Between 1980 and 1984 she was chartered to Waterman Steamship Corp, and was renamed GEORGE WYTHE, before reverting to GREEN ISLAND. Later Central Gulf and Waterman both became subsidiaries of International Shipholding Corp, and there was much co-operation between these companies.
On 14.01.2002 GREEN ISLAND arrived at Alang, India for demolition.
