Description:

U.S. cargo vessel HOWELL LYKES is here seen on the Mississippi River just below New Orleans.
This vessel was built 1967 by Avondale Shipyard, Avondale. She was one out of 14 vessels of this type built by Avondale for Lykes Lines. However, two of them were destroyed during outfitting by hurricane Betsy in 9/1965, so only 12 of them entered service.

In 1985 she was transferred to U.S. Military Sea Lift Command, and was renamed CAPE BORDA in 1986.
The following years she spent most of her time in the Reserve Fleet laid up at Suisun Bay, Calif.

On 12.09.2017 she arrived in tow at Brownsville, Tx. for demolition.
