Description:

On the night of August 21-22, 2023, the REGINA SEAWAYS ferry was sailing from the Irish port of Rosslare to the French port of Dunkirk when it was hit by a hurricane in the Irish Sea. The height of the waves in the sea was 6-7 meters, the wind speed was 35 m/s, gusts were up to 45 m/s. The passengers on board REGINA SEAWAYS were very scared and very lucky that the ferry was going against the wave in such weather conditions.

What a poorly built ship!

Regina Seaways was hit by a cyclone because the weather forecast did not indicate how strong this storm would be. Navigation in the Irish Sea is much more difficult. It is open and connected to the Ocean. It is much more difficult to sail on it, since the weather conditions are more severe than in the Baltic Sea.

Hi Gena,
it is the structural interior damage that is worrying. Hurricane winds and 6-7m waves, yes, possible damages on deck or to cargo, yes, but needing a helmet inside a passenger cabin?? Ships are certified for all oceans and weather can be even worse than this as all sailors have experienced, none of my ships ever looked like this inside during or after a storm. So in my opinion not solid state built.
Not an advise but generally spoken, reducing speed and ease the angle of attack have helped in many severe weathers, trying to keep a possible schedule not.
Best wishes, Manfred

On July 25, 2020, an extraordinary event happened on the ferry "Regina Seaways", which sailed from Klaipeda to Kiel – a girl was born. The crew of the ferry then joked that the captain should become the godfather of the child and name the girl Regina. This is the first child in a Lithuanian family living in Norway. "It was Saturday morning, 4:16 a.m. when a woman gave birth to a baby, a girl. The woman went into labor and according to the rules, the crew asked if there were doctors among the passengers of the ferry. A German pediatrician who was sailing to Kiel came to the rescue and delivered the baby in the cabin. A helicopter was called from Poland, but even before its arrival, the woman had already given birth. The helicopter took the woman and child to a Polish hospital, later the baby's father informed the crew that everything was fine - the woman and child were healthy and alive and thanked everyone for their help " P.S . Maybe it happened in one of these ferry cabins?))) Best wishes, Gena
