The Brake (Germany) built hopper dredger SCALD, which was completed at Wilhelmshaven in 2007 as a dry cargo ship and in 2017 converted to a dredger, departing from Eastham lock on 4th September 2023 to dredge in the QE II oil dock and Eastham Channel, photographed from the inbound Mersey ferry SNOWDROP.

On 5th September SCALD carried out dredging operations in the Manchester Ship Canal. She briefly returned to Eastham Channel on the following night before departing from Ellesmere Port for Greenock at 14.00 hrs on 6th September.
