The vessel was built at the "Sedef shipyard" in Tuzla, Turkey, in the early 90s by order of the Sakhalin Shipping Company MMF of the USSR. During its construction, there was no longer any left in the USSR, and the “Sakhalin residents” apparently did not have US dollars, and they refused to buy it. After this, “CHAPLANOVO” was supposed to sail under the flag of Cyprus, but the joint Cypriot-Russian company “Unicom Management Services Ltd ” also refused to buy it. Then Lithuania bought "CHAPLANOVO" for about 13 million German marks for its Lithuanian Shipping Company and named it "MINDAUGAS".
