Such an interesting sight... Yes the ship is 309m long but it feels like it's longer than any other 309m bulker (which is not a laker) photographed from same angle/distance.
Another interesting thing is that she has a lifeboat only at the starboard side! Regulations are different in the US?

I believe the coast guard only requires enough lifeboats to fit each crew member. If I recall correctly there are 23 crew members onboard the ship at all times, which is quite amazing considering it's the largest operating ship on the Great Lakes. I will say the United States coast guard is a lot more relaxed with it's regulations compared to the Canadian coast guard.
