United States Line's AMERICAN LARK is here seen in the Panama Canal in March 1975 during a transit.
This container vessel was built 1969 by Sun Shipbldg. Co. at Chester, Pa.

Her history is as follows:
1969: Delivered as AMERICAN LARK (U.S.A.)
1987: SEA-LAND LARK (U.S.A.)
1988: SEA-LAND CRUSADER (U.S.A.)
2000: CSX CRUSADER (U.S.A.)
2003: HORIZON CRUSADER (U.S.A.)
11/2009: Sold to breakers at Westwego / New Orleans.

Completed in 1969, the American Lark was one of US Lines' "Lancer-class" container ships, which were among the very first purpose-built container ships, as opposed to container ships which were converted from pre-existing ships built for other purposes. They must have been pretty successful because all of them lasted into the next century, with the American Lark not being scrapped until 2010.
