The Polar Honduras was built in January 1979 at the Flender Werft shipyard for Hamburg-Sud, but was only briefly in the fleet until sold in 1981. She returned to the Hamburg-Sud fleet in 1994 when chartered from London / Greek shipowner Lomar for with the Star Reefer joint venture with Blue Star Line. The red hull looks to have been associated with the charter, as a few years later while still sailing as Polar Honduras, her hull had changed to while and had the familiar Lomar blue and white emblemed funnel.
