December in Vladivostok is probably not ideal for a paint job

December is indeed not a good month for painting (in the northern hemisphere), but the side of this sailing ship looks as if it had not seen paint for many months... The explanation of the lack of maintenance as inflation is not very convincing. The old proverb says that HE WHO HAS SHIPS MUST HAVE EXPENSES...
I am extremely sorry to see this beautiful ship neglected, also because it was built in the place where I learned the profession of a shipbuilder. The designer of the series of these beautiful ships was master engineer Zygmunt Choreń, designer, FATHER OF SAILING SHIPERS, graduate of the Gdańsk University of Technology.
It was according to his designs that units such as MIR, DAR MLODZIEZY, ROYAL CLIPPER, RUNNING ON WAVES, POGOROA, ISKRA and many others were built.

I agree that in summer time the ship’s command staff could have paint touch up the side of the ship. But we must not forget at that time there was inflation in the country, government funding was not enough even for salaries. I heard at that time the commander of a warship sold his car in order to buy paint for the ship.
I think at that time the main achievement the ship was not sold under some dark scheme to China for a restaurant, etc.

. Stories about ship commanders who sold their "last shirt" to buy paint and brushes can probably be placed among children's fairy tales. And as for inflation? We will not speculate here about its causes... Perhaps potential buyers would have a better fate for this beautiful sailing ship. Even the Chinese. They would certainly not allow a representative ship flying their national flag to look like a factory trawler after a many-week stay in the Sea of Okhotsk.
Best regards ;

The ship is anchored, shipyard equipment, floating dock, cranes in the background. All this means that the sailing ship is waiting for shipyard repairs... However, it is difficult for me to understand how it was possible to restore this beautiful ship to the condition shown in the photo. After all, the university has always had free labor - students - cadets for current painting and maintenance works. The condition of the ship on the day this photo was taken cannot be a source of pride for the crew, owner or flag country. The white (original) hull looks like it belongs to a fishing vessel that worked in difficult conditions for several weeks.

How far you are from understanding of reality. Such a man with uncompromising stand. Should be. I don't understand. Wow. Cool.
If vessel positioned in a shiprepair yard it absolutely doesn't mean anything. She could be laid up. And it was. Exactly what happening with me know. Beside that you can't use you expressions as a substitute for paint, even if you have hundreds of idiots onboard. It was really hard time in our country, especially for government institutions. As my friend said - no funds. And main achievement was to retain vessel at least on hands. Ukrainian sister "Druzhba" got lost class during her arrest on Cyprus. Sails got rotten. And until now government did not find any funds to restore her till sailing condition.
