these are reinforcement plates attached to the spreader/cross tree railing. When overhauling the cargo gear (which was usually done by the deck crew and not by any shipyard) the derrick was lowered on deck first. Before removing the upper tumbler the mast head span block with the topping lift wires had to be secured before they were lowered on deck. Due to quite a bit of weight when loosened the king post/mast railing had to be strong enough to hold this. This was normally not the case so these triangle plates were built in, one above each tumbler. With plenty of derricks and therefor the same number of mast head span blocks you need the same amount of reinforcements.

So basically the curved (-like struts I saw on tops of masts/kingposts on other vessels are also for hanging & lowering those blocks during maintenance.
