WELCOME TO SHIPSPOTTING.COM
Description:
The General Mata was another ship that was transferred to Aboitiz Shipping, upon delivery from the Sumitomo shipyard (#1123) after having been lauched as SALTNES. The link with Aboitiz was sealed in 1982, under the name of JEBSEN-PTC and from 1985 onwards several Jebsen ships came under Philippine flag and were renamed after historically important Philippine military persons. The ships all came back to the Jebsen fleet towards the end of the eighties. One of the main purposes of Jebsen PTC was recruiting suitable crews for the fleet, and in the Nineties it became its main task.
Jebsen PTC exists to this day.

Another we saw a lot here of that class was Ciclope ex Surenes during her time under Spanish ownership from 1999. She was on a semi-liner service to North America carrying sawn timber for the booming USA building market in the 2000's before the GFC took out all the dodgy mortgages American banks dished out with little security. This tried suddenly dried up, it also employed two Aboitiz vessels incl. General Delgado ex Jebsen Napier, one of a trio designed originally for the various NZ liner services for containers as well as forest products:
