Information received from Chris Gee at Fremantle:

LISSA, later as LISSA SOLKLINT, has been a frequent and much loved resident at Fremantle since the early-2000’s and still retains her original owners funnel colours.

As LISSA, she was converted overseas into a motor yacht for worldwide expeditions and was eventually based at Fremantle. She was kept in pristine condition until after about 10 years when the owner, Chris Packer, sadly passed away. She was bought by a local industrial safety and training equipment firm known as Saferight, owned by a Mac McCormack.

It was about this time the name was extended and reregistered to LISSA SOLKLINT although it is only as such on the bows using the raised lettering of her former name with just LISSA on the stern. The plimsoll mark indicates apparently still under Cook Islands registry although she occasionally flies the Australian flag and Avatiu on the stern is painted over but not replaced with anything. At some point, an ugly spiral boarding steel staircase access and boat landing structure was added to the starboard side of the stern.

She briefly appeared on the Saferight website as a training ship but that didn’t last long ands he only made one voyage to Indonesia with an aid cargo, breaking down on the way back ! Since then the ship has lain at anchor about a mile offshore in the semi-protected waters of Cockburn Sound just out from the resort town of Rockingham in the southern end of Fremantle port waters. She is now just an attractive part of the scenery !

She has been there for about 10 years and only moved once under tow to anchor off another beach location for a few weeks and then was towed back to her usual anchorage. The waters are well exposed to strong winter and summer afternoon winds but she must have good anchors and chain as has never been in trouble even in the worst winter storms. It is unclear if McCormack still owns her and it seems she is only used as a houseboat for family and friends, mainly on weekends. Her external condition has considerably deteriorated; especially the beautiful wooden bridge front is now all worn, faded and cracking away. The top deck tarpaulin that used to cover the entire area around the funnel is also now all frayed away and gone. She was heavily rust streaked along the white hull until a few months ago when someone decided to at least paint over it white again. It is unlikely that her engines remain operational, or that is she is still in class. If one had the money would be a wonderful preservation project and get her running again as totally unique in this part of the world now at 68 years of age. One would expect she will have to be moved for maintenance or disposed of within the near future.
