Description:

Cyprus-registered container vessel REGENT MOON is here seen departing Gothenburg for Piraeus in August 1986. This was the only voyage she would do under this name. She had just been taken over from the Swedish Johnson Line where she carried the name ANNIE JOHNSON. She was to be rebuilt to a cruise vessel for Regency Cruise Lines when she arrived at Greece. This did not materialise, and she was laid up at Perama.
In 1988 she was sold to Panama (MSC), renamed ALEXANDRA, and put back in service.
Sold again in 1990, this time to Costa Crociere, and taken under rebuilding to cruise ship in Genoa.
When put back in service in 1992, she carried the name COSTA ALLEGRA.

On 27/2-2012 during a cruise in the Indian Ocean, she had a fire in the engine room. Fire was extinguished, but Costa decided not to repair the vessel. Sold to Turkish breakers, and arrived at Aliaga in tow renamed SANTA CRUISE in October 2012.

There were actually 3 ships involved, all former Johnson line containerships. Antony Lelakis thought it would be more economic to convert ships rather than build cruiseliners. As said this project did not proceed, with one of the group being canabalised for parts for a different cruiseliner conversion then was scrapped, while the other sister Axel Johnson / Regent Moon also converted to a cruiseliner and r/n Costa Marina

Why someone would even have that thought "Maybe she could be a decent cruise ship instead" regarding this ship?
