Description:

She came from the Nakskov shipyard in 1946 as NORDEN and was renamed in 1963.
In January 1974 whilst at anchor in the Clyde waiting a berth at Greenock with a sugar cargo she dragged her anchor in a fierce gale and struck the BP tanker BRITISH LIGHT also at anchor following drydocking.
CAPTAYANNIS' crew were all taken off successfully but she settled on her side on a sandbank and as she was not a danger to shipping has remained there ever since, the Clyde's most enduring wreck.
This shot given to me by Robin Wilson shows her a year earlier arriving at the James Watt Dock in Greenock to discharge sugar.

A rather undignified ending, but at least she escaped the breakers.
