Description:

This is an old picture I took in 1969 on my trip from Mackinaw Island to Mackinaw City and I have to apologize for the poor quality as I had no digital camera at that time when I was eleven years old! I really don't know if this vessel is a bulker or a grain vessel. Can anybody help me in this case? What happened to this vessel?

Update 17.04.2008:
Changed category and corrected name of vessel.
Further informations found:
WILLIAM B. SCHILLER was launched October 23, 1909 for the Pittsburgh Steamship Co., Cleveland, OH.

My Father sailed this ship in the late 60's. She was to small for grain; it wasn't cost effective.

Pittsburgh Steamships was the ship operating arm of the United States Steel Company. It is more likely that she carried iron ore, limestone and other minerals for steel making. Grain was not a cargo that she carried very often, if ever.

She surely carried grain, stone, sand, coal, ore and much more. Info I found is this: Sold for scrapping at Duluth, MN, in 1978. Removed from documentation in July, 1978.
